Rules of the Game

Today I want to kick off this series on Rules of the game by getting you to believe in a different way about your life. You can’t bend the rules to your advantage up until you understand what they are!

What is a rule?

Before we begin, let me cover a couple of fundamental ideas.
What is a guideline? Well,a guideline is essentially a broad classification of beliefs that define how somebody thinks the world operates. The keyword here is “thinks.”
The majority of the time, people are operating on guidelines that they set for themselves without even recognising it.

Rules You Think Exist

What are some guidelines you might unconsciously follow? Well,in my work as a property developer and the people I’ve interacted with,I have actually found these to be incredibly typical:

· You need to work more to make more money.

· If you are a hard worker, your work will be rewarded.

· You have to go to school to get a great job.

· The government will look after you in retirement.

Want to understand a typical thing among all of these rules? They do not exist! In fact, more times than not, these guidelines are broken. You believe that they are real, however people will screw you over, you won’t get what you want, and you’ll just assume it’s since they are horrible individuals.

In truth, you’re the only one imagining them, and everybody else is doing simply great without them.

The Flip Side

Let’s take another technique. If these imaginary guidelines do not exist and everyone does not follow them, what’s stopping you from following your own set of guidelines? I don’t want you to take what I stated above as a factor to throw all guidelines out the window. In fact, rules are necessary; you just need to follow the right set of guidelines.

Rules must be empowering, they need to set a requirement of conduct for you to follow, they should have a cause-and-effect relationship with your outcomes, and they ought to set your procedures and procedures.
